roadtrip through southern europe

Inspiring people to discover the world for a living is pretty great, but exploring the world myself is just as important!

That’s why I decided to do a road trip from the Netherlands to Spain to start working in Valencia. Curious? Here's my story

After rounding off my studies in the Netherlands which included an internship at Yobbers, I got the chance to continue working at the company. Instead of staying in the Netherlands, I saw the opportunity to live and work in yet another country and decided to relocate to the Valencia office. I thought to myself: If not now, then when? I just had to take this chance to get to know a new country, culture and climate.

My turn to explore the world

Why fly across all the beauty that southern Europe has to offer, when I could hit the road and take the scenic route instead? That is why, I packed my stuff, downloaded some road trip playlists and off I went in my van towards the south! For one month, I drove along the coast through France, Spain and Portugal with the end destination of Valencia. Get ready for my highlights in each country and be inspired to take your chance and go working abroad yourself!

My highlights

France, La Rochelle - Maritime charme and French delicacies!

This coastal city holds a very special charme. No matter if you are working remote from one of the cosy cafes near the harbour (my favourite is Nagoya Coffee Shop!) , visit the market for some delicacies or explore the history of this unique location: you will certainly not get bored. Make sure to also do a day trip to the island Ile de Ré to see the long, sandy beaches and spectacular views

Spain, Picos de Europe National Park - A sunrise to remember!

Probably the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen was right here! Waking up at 6am and driving narrow roads winding up the mountains in complete darkness was certainly no walk in the park, nor was climbing up to the viewpoint. But being able to enjoy THAT spectacular sunrise overlooking the glacial lakes Enol and Ercina, almost by ourselves with only the noises of cows and horses around was absolutely breathtaking

My tip: Go in off-season to avoid big crowds and make sure to be there early!

Sunrise in Asturia

Portugal, Peniche - Where the surf is up all year round!

Located only 1 hour from Lisbon, this peninsula is known as the surf capital of Portugal due to incredible and consistent waves. But there is so much more to do than only surfing: Enjoy delicious local cuisine, wander along the endless beaches and pay a visit to the small archipelago Berlengas located off the coast of Peniche.

My tip: Are you looking to stay in a cosy, family-like hostel and top-notch surf classes for every level? Check out Peniche Backpacker Hostel and Mocean Surf Peniche

What's next?

After a whole month of bouncing around from hostels, friends couches and of course the moderately comfortable bed in my van, I am glad to have finally settled in Valencia now. A new adventure and exciting challenges await, which is always the case when daring to work abroad.

When will you take your chance? Check out the vacancies at our website, and ask yourself: If not now, then when?

If you ask me: Go for it, the sooner the better!
