6 tips for an unforgettable time abroad

Are you ready for a new challenge? Then how about living and working abroad? Why not move to a popular holiday destination like Spain or Portugal?

1. Make a bucket list

What is a bucket list? A list like the one in your notes, on a crumpled piece of paper or on a sticker. In any case, you should write down all the activities and trips you want to do in your life. Every time you have done one of these things, you can cross it off your list. This way, you have an overview of all the activities you want to do. But be realistic! Are you going to work abroad soon? Then make a list of things you want to do during that time! For example, a road trip, a hike in a national park or brunch at the most popular hotspot in town!

2. Live like a local

Have you already discovered all the tourist hotspots? And would you like to discover the hidden treasures when you work abroad? Then don't wait any longer and start living like a real local! This way, you can immerse yourself in the country's culture and experience new adventures much faster. But how can you do this? You must try to improve your language skills. The locals appreciate it when you try to speak a few words in their language (don't worry, it doesn't have to be perfect). They will often help you feel at home if they notice you making an effort. Your neighbours, work colleagues, and people you meet will also know the local hotspots. They have lived in the country for years and know all the insider tips. Dare to ask and discover all the great local food stalls, cosy bars and unusual hotspots.

3. Get off the couch and be open to new things

We all know how nice it is sometimes to spend a weekend in bed, relaxing and watching Netflix. But it's also essential to do things and get out of bed. Be open to new opportunities and new people. Say "yes" to parties of your work colleagues and step out of your comfort zone. It may be a bit exciting at first, but the upside is that it will also bring you many benefits. You will meet new people with whom you can plan great outings and weekends.

4. Plan weekend trips

When you work abroad, you will have a few days off now and then. How nice it is to plan weekends away. Who said you have to stay in one place all the time? This way, you can explore the country and visit new hotspots. For example, use your bucket list and plan some trips.

5. Capture the moment

When working abroad, you probably want to capture everything (from breakfast on the beach to safari with the Big Five). Either for a new photo on Instagram, a photo book or to think back to the great time you had. Taking pictures is also an absolute must! Want something other than standard photos on your phone? How about an old-fashioned disposable camera or vlogging? Make sure you don't get too enthusiastic and enjoy the surroundings and your fantastic time!

6. Exploring new cultures starts at home!

The experience of an unforgettable adventure starts at home. Before you start working abroad, you can already find many beautiful hotspots by looking around on Instagram and Facebook. Often, locals or certain Facebook groups already share many tips with cool hotspots (which you probably don't know yet). So get inspired in advance!
